We all know taking care of your physcial health is very important in this job. Just as important is taking care of your mental health. This profession lays scars on our mind. We must always be mindful of the effects these scars leave, and take care of ourselves. Gone are the days when an officer fears reaching out for help. Those who embrace mental health wellbeing end up being a better parent, spouse, officer/ deputy, and retire with no evil reminders that creep around in their heads.
If you don't believe me, watch a TV show where they interview an old retired detective about a big case. More often than not that old retired guy ends up crying on camera. Our job can haunt us, but it doesn't have to.
